I would love to vatch up with you there. I have several new pieces of work to show you.

Whilst standing in the office, I noticed that the sun was being refracted by the window and a spectrum was cast across the wall. I studied it for a while, and noticed that there was an area beyond what I could see which I could discern without actually seeing.
This painting is my first attempt to capture those colours of the rainbow which cannot normally be seen. The differing thickness of the spectrum alludes to the wavelength of the light (Red being shorter than blue) and the left hand graduated white indicating the ‘source’.
Painted using acrylic on canvas (30’ X 30’).

This latest piece of work is next step on from the blue diamond (Cyanidamond), introducing more colours and also a rippled effect. I am not always comfortable with depicting actual things (like ripples) but I thought it was necessary to ground the egg rather than have it suspended.
I hope you enjoy. This is 30’’ X 30’’ acrylic on canvas.

For the past couple of weeks I have been working on a new project, creating a set of four paintings depicting the changing seasons. This departure from pure abstract and into some basic landscaping will be a dead end, one off experiment. Hopefully you can tell which month is which!
Each is on a 16’’ X 20’’ canvas painted in acrylic.

‘Cyanidamond’ – a strange name for an odd painting.
This image started as one thing, and ended up somewhere completely different. I thought it was a failure on my part for not achieving the original goal. However I have been told by those around me that it’s difference to my usual work has made it ‘better’. A subjective term which in this instance I am struggling to come to terms with.
I would love to know what you think. Please leave your comments.

A friend of mine said that the Aztec painting looked like a circuit board.
So I thought I would see if I could actually paint a circuit board. This is my first (and probably last) attempt at doing that. I am not saying it isn’t any good. Its just that it did not work as well as I would have hoped. The chip should present the optical illusion of being ‘In’ and then ‘Out’ (Like a Necker Cube illusion). But I think it is to busy to work properly
Ambitiously I have created the ‘chip’ on a board which resembles one you would plug into a slot on your computer. This includes the little cut out bit to make sure you get it in the right place. To achieve this I backed the canvas frame with hardboard and cut out the stretched frame. I suspect this will ultimately collapse, but it worked well enough for this attempt.
Unfortunately, the chip detail is so fine that the full photograph does not do it justice, so I have also photo’d the chip close up.
Acrylic paint on stretched (and modified) canvas 20’’ X 20’’. Enjoy.

This piece continues to explore themes of lines, circles and graduated background colours (deep purple through to blue), only this time I have omitted a triangular shape in the centre of the image with the three points indicated by the light blue circles.
Personally I think of the circles as three stars, with white hearts and radiating solar spheres. The background indicates space, and the energy lines indicate that they are interacting with the distant star, impacted by the middle star, and not influenced by the closest star. This lends the triangle a three dimensional quality. However, this is only my interpretation, and I would love to hear what you see in it.
Enjoy.

This image further explores the interaction of foreground and background, and the interplay between the colours between lines and background.
The title comes from the three background swirls which I imagined as dancing ladies in the energy fields.

It has been a while since my last post, and for good reason. I was commissioned to create a small paining which I delivered today.
Whilst the sum of money involved was not great, I can now claim to be a ‘professional’ artist. This also achieves my New Years resolution to sell a work of art in the year!
The painting was colour matched to the clients room, with a design brief of ‘Dark purple, mauves, violets and pinks, but mostly dark purple’. I have departed from my usual back ground colour in horizontal bands, and instead created a more circular pattern. In addition the foreground lines interact more with the background than in previous work.
